The configuration is slightly different for Outlook
Express 4 than it is with the newer Outlook
Express 5.
You should also go here
and download & install the latest Security patches to help protect
yourself from nasty email virus/worms!
Configuring
Outlook Express 5
If you
haven't created an E-Mail account profile for eagle, please load Outlook
Express and click on Tools > Accounts > Add > Email. The wizard should appear and walk you through the various
fields illustrated below.
One
reminder. Don't put a capital letter P before your username
anywhere in your E-Mail configuration.
Outlook Express 5.0 Email Wizard
"Display Name" -- simply enter your First and Last
name in the box. This is the name that will appear when you send email to
your friends. Click on "Next" when finished.
"Email Address" -- select "I already have an
email address that I'd like to use" and enter your full eagle
email address in the E-mail address box. Click on "Next"
when finished.
"Mail Servers" -- Select "My incoming mail
server is a POP3 server". Enter 'pop3.eagle.ca' as your "Incoming
mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server". Enter 'smtp.eagle.ca' as your
"Outgoing mail (SMTP) server". Click on "Next"
when finished.
"Account Info" -- Enter your eagle username or login
name in the "Account Name" box. Enter your eagle password
in the "Password" box. If you don't wish to enter your
password each time your check for email, then make sure "Remember
password" is checked. Leave "Log on using Secure Password
Authentication (SPA)" un-checked. Click on "Next"
when finished.
Click on the "Finish" button to complete setting up
your new email account.
Reviewing your Email Account in Outlook Express 5
If you
already have an E-Mail account profile for eagle, and wish to review your
settings, load Outlook Express and click on Tools > Accounts >
Mail tab. You should see an email
account for eagle. Click on the name once so it becomes high-lighted (if
it's not already), and then click on the Properties button.
There
are three tabs that you should review.
Click on
the "General" tab (you likely will already begin on this
screen).
The
"Mail Account Name" is simply a name for this email profile and
that would be something like "eagle.ca"
Your
First and Last name will likely be in the "Name" box. This is
what will appear on your friend's screen when they receive email from you.
You can
leave the "Organization" empty or enter your company name or
even eagle.ca in the box.
You
should see your complete eagle email address in the "email
address" box, in the form of username@eagle.ca
If you
wish to have people send their Replies to a different email address than
your eagle address, enter that email address in the "Reply
Address" box or just leave it empty.
Make
sure there's a check mark in the box in front of "Include this
account when receiving mail"
Now
click on the "Servers" tab.
In the
"Server Info" section you should see "My incoming mail
server is a POP3 server". In the "Incoming Mail POP3" box
you should see pop3.eagle.ca and in the "Outgoing Mail SMTP" box you
should see smtp.eagle.ca.
In the
"Incoming Mail Server" section your eagle username should be
entered in the "Account Name" box and your eagle password should
be entered in the "Password" box. (it will appear as ****** for
security reasons). If you don't wish to enter your
password each time your check for email, then make sure "Remember
password" is checked. Leave "Log on using Secure Password
Authentication" un-checked.
In the
"Outgoing Mail Server" section you should leave "My
Server Requires authentication" un-checked.
Click on
the "Connection" tab.
Go ahead
and check "Always connect to this account using" and
select your eagle Dial-Up Networking profile from the drop down list.
Click on
Apply, then OK and close all remaining windows.
You can
also further customize Outlook Express by clicking on Tools > Options
and reviewing the "General" tab.
If you
want Outlook to check for new email as soon as you load the program then
make sure "Send and Receive at startup" is checked.
Otherwise, uncheck it so it waits until you click on the "Send
& Receive" button.
If you
would like Outlook to continually check for new email messages every 5
minutes or so while it's running, then enable the "Check for new
messages every 5 minutes" option. You may also wish to enable
"If my computer is not connected at this time" and select
"Connect even when working offline"
Now
click on the Connection tab.
I would
make sure "Ask before switching dial-up connections" is
checked.
If you
don't want Outlook to hang up after sending and receiving email, then make
sure "Hang up after sending and receiving" is
un-checked.
