eagle.ca's new home "Northumbria
House" eagle.ca relocated to historic downtown Cobourg on February 29, 2000. Our goal during the renovations of "Northumbria House" was to return as much of the house as possible to the styling of the period (1871) while adding the high-technology of 2000. This stately home sits on property once owned by Eluid Nickerson who is considered to be Cobourg's first citizen. The house was built by the Methodist Church in 1871 as the parsonage. When the Methodist Church became the United Church, the home became the church manse. The church was also responsible for the building of Victoria College and the former Cobourg Library building which is situated beside Northumbria House. The "Library" was originally the church Sunday school and auditorium. It has been renovated as condominiums by Rick Lovekin and Ron Moreland. In 1991, the United Church sold the manse to Dr. Carson Kwok and Dr. Mark Essak. The doctors opened the Cobourg Health Centre in the manse and have now moved their practise to 513 Division Street across from the Mid-Town Mall.
